Welcome to the official website for the City of Freer, Texas. Freer is home to several premier hunting ranches and deep in the heart of the Eagle Ford Shale. The city is 24 miles northwest of the Duval’s County Seat, San Diego, TX and intersects at U.S. Highway 59 and State Highways 16, 44 and 339.
Freer received its first U.S. Post Office in 1925 and was incorporated in 1936 for several years. Freer was incorporated for a second time in 1960. The city has experienced several oil booms over the last hundred years and its local economy has fallen and risen with the tides of the oil market.
The City of Freer has benefited greatly through technology and the modernization of the local school district. Students from Freer ISD receive a top quality education and many of its high school students participate in dual college enrollment through a partnership with Texas A&M International University in Laredo. Freer is one of the safest small towns in the United States and is considered by many as a great place to raise a family.
Freer is home to the Annual “Rattlesnake Round-up,” a local community festival held in March. The festival draws crowds from the local community as well as guests from throughout the State of Texas. Visitors gather for games, music and delicious food.
